History

Kathy Chua and Kitty ArceThe MyZoo Volunteer Group was formed in January 2000 by Kathy Chua and Kitty Arce. It was recognized as a non-profit, non-government organization by the SEC on October 2, 2000 – thus, it is a foundation. The aim of MyZoo is to help save the environment by educating children and the general public.

MyZoo believes that the key to effective education is a good exhibit, such as the Manila Zoological and Botanical Garden, its first project. Seeing the zoo as a center of public education, the foundation has designed various programs that suit this thrust.

The foundation aims to help renovate animal enclosures and create behavioral and enrichment programs for the animals with the assistance of zoo veterinarians. MyZoo supports conservation programs of Manila Zoo, and in the future, of other conservation groups. MyZoo also wishes to help maintain zoo grounds. The foundation also organizes fund raising activities to help support these kinds of programs and projects.

Vision

A world where there is harmonious existence between people and their natural environment.

Mission

MyZoo aims to transform zoos in general into effective educational institutions that inspire action towards the conservation of biodiversity; improve the image, facilities and programs of different zoos; and to strengthen links to communities vital to the preservation of endemic species.
