Blind girl meeting friendly feline

We have three types of volunteer program that you can join: the basic volunteer program, the education program, and the environmental enrichment program.

I. Basic Volunteer Program

1. includes animal food preparation and feeding, zoo clean up, zoo tour and close encounters with tamed and trained animals like snakes, rabbits, guinea pigs or birds.

II. Education

1. Zoo Tour With Close Encounters — group tours conducted by the volunteers at any of the institutions MyZoo is working with. The visitors are provided with tour guides discussing basic animal information and the importance of conserving the environment. The visitors are also given the chance to experience close encounters with tamed zoo animals like snakes, small mammals and birds.

2. Zoo To You — aims to teach school children more about the environment by holding a short talk on basic pet care and animal conservation, and by staging an animal interaction in venues outside the zoo. A Zoo To You costs PhP 2,500.00 covering the animal food, transportation and facilitation fee.

-Portraits of Philippine Wildlife & BioBox, included in this program, is an educational program comprised of a traveling photo exhibit, featuring endemic and endangered Philippine animals; and the BioBox, an interactive environmental workbook.

3. Zoo Day — is an outreach program that aims to expose children of lesser fortune to the beauty of nature by bringing them to the zoo and providing them with a day-long program comprising of short talks on the environment, tour with close encounters, story-telling and games.

4. Information Campaign — an information dissemination arm of MyZoo which aims to educate the public of the status of Philippine wildlife, laws on wildlife conservation and animal welfare laws through lectures and/or symposia, exhibits or other forms of campaign.

5. Community Service Program — a community-based program offered to colleges or universities with unit requirements for community service / lay apostolate / civic welfare service. The students involved in this program are assigned in modules which aims to expose them to basic zoo work, instill awareness among them, and to contribute to MyZoo's educational programs.

III. Environmental Enrichment

1. EE & BE Projects — include the conduct of behavioral studies of animals whether captive or in the wild, in order to formulate projects that will help in the welfare of the animals; enclosure rehabilitation; training of keepers in environmental enrichment projects; and making of novelty items for captive animals.

2. Veterinary Programs — include activities in conjunction with educating the public on basic pet care and animal welfare. Some of these activities are lectures on rabies and other diseases that can be transmitted by pets to humans, vaccination drives against canine rabies, and neutering/ spaying services.
